Episode Six

Build Your Cancer Support Team

Jan 2, 2022

In this episode of Caregiver’s Guide to Cancer we’re talking about how to categorize the activities needed to maintain your household while also juggling cancer. We’re showing you how to build your cancer support team.

Grab a pen and paper. You’re going to want to take some notes to help you get organized. You’re going to learn how to categorize and prioritize. Once I give you the categories, you’ll need to spend some time listing all the tasks that fall in each category.  Then, you’ll be ready to share those lists with your friends and family that truly do want to help you.  They want to support you.  They simply don’t know how. They’re waiting for you to tell them.

Once you complete this assignment, you’ll know exactly how to prioritze your time and how to best inform others on how to support you.

Note: We’re working on anothe download that will help you walk you through this process.  Stay tuned.  When it’s ready, we’ll update this section with a link to download some worksheets.

Thank you for sharing your experiences and the lessons you’ve learned in these episodes. I am a cancer caregiver for my wife who is dealing with stage 4 colorectal cancer. One of the first things I thought when I had to start doing wound care for her was, “There’s no manual on how to live like this.” Just thick folders of instructions so general (about wound care in this instance) that we’ve had to co-author it in our heads as we went, so to speak. I appreciate you sharing your stor(ies).

Hi Charles. Sadly, your experience is far too common. Our journey is ongoing so that means more learning as we go. I’m glad you found us… we’ll keep sharing as we go along. We’ll be praying for healing for both you and your wife. — Ammie
